Steve Brackett, has 34 years of experience in the financial services industry primarily focused on private equity and venture capital investing, fund development and operational management, investment banking, and structured finance.
Steve is President, Managing Member and Co-Head of Alternative Investments, and a member of the Management and Investment Committees at Shepherd Kaplan Krochuk, LLC, a $6 Billion investment management and advisory firm headquartered in Boston, MA. Steve is directly involved in the management and development of the alternative investment initiatives at the company, which includes product development, transaction origination, capital formation, portfolio construction, due diligence across investment and operation functions, strategic initiative development and management, and divisional governance. Steve also oversees operational management for the direct investment division of the firm.
Recently, Steve was a Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Infusion Global Partners, LLC, a Wellesley, MA based investment platform investing in global, emerging hedge fund managers utilizing a muti-strategy hedge fund platform. Steve held the functional positions of Head of Business Development, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, and Chair of the Operational Due Diligence Committee. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the firm.
Prior to Infusion, Steve was a Managing Partner at Lincoln Vale, a Boston/ London/ Cayman based global alternative investment management firm, overseeing proprietary hedge and private equity funds in partnership with ING Bank. Steve was responsible for business development, manager selection, fund creation, global product distribution, strategic partner solicitation and client management, operational management and infrastructure development. Steve participated on the firm’s Management Committee.
Prior to Lincoln Vale, Steve was a founding General Partner of Ironside Capital Group, LLC, a Boston-based alternative investment firm, managing private equity, venture capital and hedge funds. Steve served on the firm’s investment, valuation and risk management committees. Steve also served on several select portfolio company boards.
Prior to Ironside, Steve was a co-founder of MF Private Capital, Inc., a Boston based partnership with Manulife Financial Corporation, where he built a merchant banking and private equity subsidiary to invest in multi-stage growth companies in the technology, communications and health care sectors. Working directly with Manulife’s investment committee, Steve and his partners developed the company’s alternative investment strategy and invested proprietary capital in over 60 companies and funds, serving on several boards and partnering with top venture capital firms nationally.
Steve managed the Corporate Advisory and Investment Banking services for Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Capital Corporation (BTMCC), where he was involved in structuring and syndicating financial products and transactions for the bank and third-party clients.
Before joining BTMCC, Steve was the President and Chief Operating Officer of State Street Business Group, Inc., a Boston-based investment banking and financial consulting firm serving family offices, small and mid-sized companies and fund management firms.
Earlier in his career, Steve held senior positions at First Winthrop Securities (Boston based real estate investment bank, sold to Nomura); Hoenig & Co, Inc. (global soft dollar trading firm, IPO); and Drexel, Burnham & Lambert, Inc.
Steve has extensive governance experience serving on numerous corporate and non-profit boards in the roles of Director, Treasurer, and Finance Committee member. He has served or is currently serving on the following non-profit boards: New England Colleges Fund, Massachusetts Special Olympics, Massachusetts Mentoring Partnership, the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, American Red Cross of Massachusetts, Sudbury for Wounded Warriors, The Reaching Back Foundation, Camp Kieve-Wavus, the Boston Irish Business Association, he is a member of the Leadership Council of The Home Base Project, and is a member of the Dinner Committee for the American Ireland Funds Boston Gala.
Steve currently serves on the following corporate boards as a director: BioDirection (late development stage Medical Device company); and the following corporate advisory boards: Boston Interactive, Causmo, Kaprica Security, Miles Howland and Co, FTS, LLC, and 9i Ventures. Steve is also an advisor and judge for the New England Innovation Awards and the Cambridge College School of Management Capstone Project.
Steve is a recipient of the T.O.Y.L. (Ten Outstanding Young Leaders) award from the Boston Chamber of Commerce , a recipient of the Boston Business Journal 40 Under 40 award, and he received the Distinguished Young Alumni Award from Bates College. Steve received his B.A. in Political Science from Bates College in 1985. He is married and lives in Sudbury, MA with his wife and three children.
